This is blowing my mind
- rec 2 rec
It’s blowing my mind how little graduates seem to be using AI to educate themselves about the career paths and roles they’re busy applying for.
You’ve got access to the best tool we’ve ever had (AI!), and yet so many people are still applying for jobs they clearly don’t understand, at all...
They apply, and I call - I ask why they want to get into recruitment and I get:
“I like working with people and building relationships.”
Or worse...
"I like helping people"
That tells me you’ve done no research with AI, and perhaps no research on google either.
That makes me wonder whether you actually want a job, let a alone a job in recruitment.
If you’re a graduate and you’re not sure what you want to do yet, use AI to help you!
Have a detailed conversation with it, tell it what you’re good at, what motivates you, how driven are you, whether money matters to you, whether you’re competitive, whether you like structure or autonomy, whether you want progression, whether you enjoy influencing people, solving problems, organising things or selling etc etc.
Then ask it:
“Based on all of that, what career paths should I explore, and why?”
Once you find something that sounds interesting, go deeper. If it’s recruitment, software sales, operations, executive search or anything else, ask:
“Teach me what this job is actually like.”
“What does a typical day involve?”
“What makes someone really good at it?”
“What do people find difficult?”
"What's the long term career path and earning poetnial"
“What would a hiring manager expect me to understand before a first call?”
“What questions am I likely to be asked, and what are they really trying to assess?”
Then give AI the actual job advert and ask it to prepare you for that specific role.
You can even ask it to act like the recruiter and interview you.
The candidates who do this are easy to spot because they sound smart, thoughtful, more prepared and more commercially switched on.
The ones who don’t are painfully easy to spot. If you’re applying for competitive graduate jobs, you really do need to play the game.
