Taking the plunge

  • rec 2 rec

The best recruiters usually know they're good, but sometimes they struggle to reach their full potential.

A lot of recruitment success comes down to the environment you're in. Whether it's the market, the training, the people around you, or the quality of work, these factors will affect your career in a big way. Even if you think you're really good, they still affect you.

Sometimes you have to lose what you have to get what you want.

Taking the plunge takes guts, and it's not without risk, but if it's apparent that you're being limited by your current environment, ripping the plaster off sooner rather than later is often the right thing to do.

It won't get easier and you won't magically get better without making a change.

Very often if you stay put, you risk not reaching your full potential.

We've seen this a lot recently, perhaps the world feeling so unsteady isn't helping.

What you can trust are the numbers: billings, tenure, and money in the bank. You can get access to all this information, and if what you're seeing elsewhere is significantly more impressive that in your current company, that should be a key indicator.

Being top dog in a small pond feels secure but there will come a point when you’ve outgrown your business.

It can take jumping ship and swimming through choppy waters to realise you’re capable of so much more – but you have to jump first!

You might not be the top dog where you go immediately, but you will become a better recruiter with more upside.

If you think you have what it takes, don’t be afraid to chase the yacht!
